With steeps, trees, couloirs, bowls, and most importantly - massive amounts of snow, Obertauern is a free skiing wonderland.
For new and inexperienced skiers, we strongly recommend a ski instructor who knows the local conditions and is able to assess the prevailing risk. The local ski schools are happy to assist you. Never go freeriding alone and without the proper equipment.
Be sure to check the daily avalanche situation report and the current avalanche danger in the ski area before leaving the secured slopes. In the area of the mountain stations of Hochalmbahn and Kringsalmbahn you will find the freeride information board. Here you will find important information about the freeride conditions.
